Sudden change in CM
« on: April 30, 2008, 08:19:13 am »

I am printing with IP 6 to an Epson 7600 UC. Everything has been very well regarding color management, with some constraints. What I see in my screen matches pretty well my printed output. I use the profiles provided by IP. Suddenly, the prints turn out desaturated, especially in the yellow and reds. I downloaded the profiles again with no success. My B&W printing has a very good match, it is just the colour that has gone. Any ideas of what could have happened?

This sounds like it could be a blocked nozzle problem.  Have you done a nozzle check?

Nozzles are fine. No banding, nothing. What surprises me is that I have been printing with this setup with great results for almost 4 years. Plus BW prints perfect.

If your sure that the printer hardware is working correctly I would double check the RIP settings. It Could be that a simulation profile was selected, or that the RGB space was changed (perhaps from AdobeRGB to sRGB) Also are you printing from Photoshop to the RIP or dropping files into the RIP? If you send some screenshots from the color window in IP i'll take a look and see if anything looks amiss.

If you can, print the same image from another app (like PS, QImage, etc.) and tell us what happens.

Ok, I´ll try printing straight from PS or LR with Bill Atkinson profiles and see what happens. I open directly the saved images in IP. I don´t send from PS or LR.
In the meantime here are the screen shots. I added PS color settings just in case. thanks a lot for your help.

It's been a while since I've used IP, but it looks like you have one of the grayscale profiles selected, thus the "gray" in the profile name. If that is what's happening I would expect you to see good results from Photoshop. I know that ColorByte publishes two version of their profiles, on for color images and then special grayscale ones as well, it looks as though you are using the later. Might want to double check the profile FTP site and see if there is a different profile for your paper.
