High-quality paper
« on: April 28, 2008, 05:46:48 am »

I'm about to buy an Epson 3800 and want to get some good paper to use in it. I'm thinking of Ilford Galerie Gold Fibre and/or Epson Exhibition.

Are there reliable suppliers in the UK? I've drawn rather a blank.

Thanks

Robert White (do google search) stocks the Ilford GFS. This can also be purchased from r k photographic I think. Hahnemuhle papers are generally available, but I purchase from Revolution Transfers (do google search including canon), RK Photographic or fotospeed.

You may be able to buy the epson from RK as well, or possible try direct.

I also used bodoni when I was in the uk.. very easy to deal with.. and at the time had the best prices on both my 4800 and supplies.

You could also have a look at online paper who stock a good range of fine art papers. http://www.on-linepaper.co.uk/ and also Fotospeed as well as their own range of papers they stock Hahnemule. They will also provide custom profiles.

I've just done a blog entry that lists the places I get my paper from.

I second Robert White (although I haven't got Epson papers from them, only Harman); not the cheapest around but very reliable and quick.

Thanks again for the help.

Has anyone tried Morco (http://www.morco.uk.com)? Their web site looks vile, but the pricing seems fairly keen.

Can I put in a word for Neil Barstow, he supplies various papers and does a great price on Innova paper.

His website is here: http://www.colourmanagement.net/

He knows his onions so you're not buying from a faceless supplier and both him and Janet have been fantastically helpful to me.

Nobody replied to this, but I thought I'd give them a try anyway. For what one experience is worth:

I decided to get Ilford GFS, 50 sheets each of A4 and A2.

I ordered by phone on Friday afternoon, about 4pm. I spoke to a pleasant woman, who took a little trouble to check whether the stuff was in stock and whether they could mee the courier deadline for that day (things get slow in England on a Friday afternoon).

The paper arrived, very nicely packed and in perfect condition, at about 10am on Monday.

The cost was £29 for the A4 and £86 for the A2, with free delivery. That may seem expensive by US standards, but it's very cheap over here. They're running a promotion at the moment, so I also received a free 10-sheet box of each size.

They have one very satisfied customer. We are (well, I am) always quick enough to moan when things don't go according to plan, so I'm happy to give credit where it's due.

They still desperately need to re-design their web site, though.
