ZIGVIEW or Angle Finder C
« on: June 13, 2005, 12:35:51 am »

I share in your curiosity as owner of an angle finder C. I haven't owned the angle finder for long, but do find it inconvenient in cases where I'd like to switch back and forth between having the angle finder, and not having the angle finder. For the zigview to be convenient for my uses, it would need to be able to be used for straight shooting, as well as waste level shooting. My guess is that the display would be reflective in the sun, and therefore not usable. I really like to get on the level of my subject, and was hoping the angle finder C would prevent some neck pain. Thus far, it looks like I will still need to strain my neck a bit.

I'm with boku.

How are you supposed to focus with a little low-res LCD?

There is no replacement for my Anglefinder VN  :)

(on the other hand, journalists who need to get above the crowd will find the Zigview very useful.)

I agree with the idea of something remote... If not the sunglass thing, which would be really cool, perhaps some way of viewing things on a palm-like device... The idea being a larger screen to look at, but yet still portable... Ideally it could be the viewfinder, and then also display what was taken. Multiple options seem possible. Perhaps even a remote trigger and option of adjusting settings remotely. The device could also be a storage device... Kind of like the epson p-2000, but with much greater capacity! And if I could really have my way with it... I'd say the storage device could be an insertable and removable laptop hard drive... That way we could easily upgrade sizes, and be able to hot-swap for increased storage capacity.

Zigview is a digital angle finder. price is approximately the same as Canon's Angle Finder C. from the preview image on their website i'm not sure if they have the same flexibility as the Canon's, but i think it's pretty darn good. maybe i'll get one soon. what do you think

Somehow, compromizing the clarity of an optical viewfinder by "taking its picture" with a CMOS and displaying it on a small LCD exposed to sunlight glare seems a bit off the mark.

It will be interesting to see how many they sell and how many people swear the merits of this device to save face regarding their impulse decision to buy.

Think it over. The first paragraph I wrote is meant to help you in your decision.

BTW: 60% of my shots are vertical. This offers nothing for that situation.

I don't find the Zigview that interesting product in it's current form. I would however, be interested in a wireless/remote version. Even a version with a wire would be interesting. Imagine having the LCD at waist-level (or wherever) regardless where you have the camera.

How about special sunglasses with an embedded LCD for the other eye?  ::

more information and pictures here

well, at the first sight, it has a CMOS sensor, with a TFT LCD 220x176 RGB, 58x31x78mm in size. a closer look at its features, i see that it has a zoom feature and 7 focus points, which probably will help focusing. besides, there is a BW effect, i think it's pretty a great previewing tool for shooting BW film at least. and the back-light brightness feature should help us seeing the screen under bright sun light.
it's the first product ever, so obviously there are a lot of improvements need to be done.
personally i'm very interested in it if it has the ability to see infrared because if it does, that means i can compose & shoot (infrared) without having to put on and off the rm72 filter every exposure (which is what i'm doing now. very inconvenient and very time consuming)
