Have you looked at the LargeMonitorJPEGs generated in the LeafDB folder?  I would have to search my archives to find something with moire so I can't remember if those jpgs are good enough for that purpose.

Hi John,

Had a go on your image using the link below and it did a pretty good job on the Moire.

I set the Median to 10.

What I am really trying to figure out is why the fast previews are so bad when the regular output doesn't show the same moire.

I assumed that this was because quality was being traded for speed. ie: the idea is to rapidly be able to check exposure and composition.... and that the resulting JPEGs weren't meant to be delivered in any way.

LC 11 has a great feature for getting super fast jpeg previews for quick proofing but the issue I have is the awful moire that is generated that is not removed even using the moire reduction tool.

Has anyone else seen this as well and found a work around. I had to get a shoot up for review online this morning and had to pull all the images into Camera Raw to get not-so-fast jpegs. The LC 11 fast preview jpegs are about 1 a second, nothing beats that for leaf files but the quality is crap.

Here is a Jpeg (Fast Preview) straight from the application, the full file doesn't show that moire:

John,

Fast preview means FAST PREVIEW and is designed to provide a file small enough for email that carries your colour and contrast adjustments.
Note that by default these files are saved at 72dpi and under sRGB for the exact above purpose.

However, the moire removal tool DOES correct these jpegs (I've just tested it to make sure I'm not misleading you). Don't forget to hit the SAVE button after using the moire tool so it saves a copy of the original mosaic file and to then process the jpeg from the CORRECTED file.

Some of the artefacts you are seeing are related to the jpeg compression as well as the downscaling (maximum size of the jpeg is 2500 pix).

If it still doesn't work then please get in touch with Rick at Leaf America and send him a raw file.

I hope this helps

Yair
