Arches in Quebec river - Iles de la Madeleine?
« on: April 20, 2008, 05:16:43 pm »

I have a seperate post regarding questions on places to shoot near Chicoutimi.

I remember seeing an article on the 10 best locations in canada in a magazine a couple of years back, though i don't remeber the magazine (Canadian Geographic, or Canadian Traveller??).

There was a location in quebec, don't know if it was by the sea or river, but there were was a shot by the sea with sea stacks and arches, with kayakers.  It looked like a cool spot to go.  I wish i had bought the issue, or at least written down the name of the location.  I was hoping that this place maybe close by for my trip to Chicoutami.

I've been doing searches on the web, to see if i could find this location, and the closst i've come up with is the "Iles de la Madeleine", which looks kind of similar but not nearly as dramatic as the photo i saw, as if remember correctly, the rocks seemed much more like the red rock in the american southwest.

Here is a link to the photo I found, i'd appreciate if anyone who knows of a similar place to give me some ideas of where that location may have been, or if it was indeed the Iles de la Madeleine.

Here is a link to the photo i found.

I have two trips for work (each 2 weeks0, one to the Chicoutami/bagotsville region (August), and another to Lunenburg and was hoping that this location would be close enough to get to on one of these trips.

I'm not sure of the area you're looking for, but the Isles de la Madeleine aren't really close to anywhere else.  They're in the middle of the Gulf of the St. Lawrence, and would make them over a thousand km from Chicoutimi.  The only place I can think of that has red rock in that part of the world is PEI...

Here's where it is; took a couple of days to remember the name: The Mingan Archipelago.

It's a long way though; on the north shore opposite Anticosti Island.   Looks to be about 2x-3x the Quebec City to Chicoutimi distance.

Thanks again Mike.  I was hoping it may be doable for a weekend trip. Oh, well, there are plenty of other places in the region to see.
