The joy of owning and Ep 3800 I ditched my 2400
« on: April 18, 2008, 07:39:01 pm »

After 18 months of fighting with my sp2400, I gave up and went out, bought a new 3800.
I was getting constant "communication error" when using the 2400. paper profiles correctly chosen in the print setttings menu, Color management off, profiles choices made properly in lightroom. It never worked properly. So much wasted ink and paper.
I picked up a 3800 today and made about 10 prints on three different kinds of papers the first hour I set it up, all worked perfectly and I got fantastic prints.
I am a mac user (intel) 3 gigs of ram, two hard drives, two back up drives.
End of story.
Those of you contemplating a 2400 and you are on a Mac.
Don't say you have not been warned.
Get a 3800, it works perfectly

My 2400 has worked perfectly for a year now with my G4 I-Book;  I do wish I'd gotten the 3800 for the print size and ink capacity though.

I know a few people who have G5's and they have no problems with their 2400's Go to an Intel Mac and it's a whole other story.
The relief I feel is fantastic knowing when I sit down to make a print I am not going to get 1/2 a print that stops because of a communication errror.
The 3800 is just fantastic and lends itself more to creative expression in printing a photo on large sheets

I'm also ditching my R2400 (maybe literally). I just got off the phone with James at Epson tech support, who insists that "this is not a known problem" and that you can't take the word of people on the internet who report the same problem. Unbelievable. It's fortunate for them that their defective product just wastes paper and doesn't kill people like defective Toyotas.
