Leaf Valeo 22 for Mamiya
« on: March 25, 2008, 04:53:35 pm »

I am looking to purchase my first Medium format system and need some advice.

I am an ameture and can not afford $12,000+ for a system so here are my thoughts.

Mamiya AFD w/ 80mm lens
Leaf Valeo 22 Wi

Both I can find used for under $7,000.

I found a Leaf Valeo 22 Wi in a Hasselblad H1 mount. Can that mount be converted or taken off and a Mamiya mount put on?

I really wanted a Hasselbald H1 but after comparing prices and lens cost I thought Mamiya would be a better fit. I liked the features and feel of the H1 but it is expensive even used.

Is there any reason why I should spend almost 50% more for Hasselblad and HC lenses as opposed to Mamiya. I know lens quality is somewhat subjective but are the Hasselblad HC lenses that much better?

Thanks

Hi
As for lens quality I did test the the Mamiya 120 & the HC 120 on an Aptus 22 a few years ago & could not see much difference. Personally I thought the Mamiya had better tonality on the skin and at it was very close. What you are comparing is Mamiya vrs Fugi glass and both make great lenses. If you go with the Mamiya mount you can use the 28mm while you can't with the H1.

it's possible to change the mount for H to AFD it's about $1500-2000 from what I was told by a Leaf Rep.
