Mystery Towers
« on: March 23, 2008, 03:08:18 pm »

I just returned from a climbing trip to Moab, and had the pleasure of visiting the remote Mystery Towers. The Mysteries are hidden a mile and a half behind the Fisher Towers. The Mystery Towers are made of the same Cutler formation as the Fishers, but their closer proximity to the mountains made them erode faster into even wilder shapes. Towers with names like Doric Column, Atlas, The Citadel, the Fortress, and Gothic Nightmare, dominate the skyline.

The thing that made the Mysteries appeal to me was their feeling of remoteness and the incredible approach; a deep winding canyon system carved into the crumbling rock.

These towers are not for everyone, though. The approach is confusing and technical. In some places, a missed step can mean death. A rope and light rack is helpful, (especially the first time), but not absolutely necessary.
