Are they in Crooklyn?  Pretty much any mail order shop in Brooklyn with super cheap prices is another name for Broadway Photo, which is the king of bait and switch, etc.

You're really not going to find someone selling the 1Ds Mark III for less than $8K right now.  Demand is still above supply an the folks selling at "too good to be true" prices have an angle.  If you want to suffer for the next month go ahead and put in your order.  Note, your order won't go through, they'll call you to "discuss" your order where they try and sell you a battery (hmm, the battery that comes with the camera is only good for 10 shots), and a warranty (for about $500) and a strap (hmm, camera doesn't seem to come with a strap), etc.

NoNoNoNoNoNo Staci.

After you realize the camera they delivered you is without a U.S. warranty, that the batteries have been swapped out for some cheap generics that won't last very long, and there's some accessories missing, then you will only have to pay a $945.00 restocking fee to return it.

A store warranty means some guy at the store will attempt to repair this camera if you have a problem, and they are not an authorized Canon repair facility.

Only go down this road if you want a good story to tell about your camera purchase fiasco.

Here's a general rule for you to follow.  Go to the B&H website.  They usually have the lowest "real" prices on the net.  If some other mail order business is just a couple of dollars cheaper, or they are throwing in a free minor accessory, etc, then they are likely for real, but when you get a really lower price, you have to ask why.

Another point - the retail markup on high end optics is very low - usually 10% at best.  Factor in that using a credit card - which most consumers do - takes out another 3.5 to 5% from the vendor (not just the CC fee, but the associated processing fees, statement fees, IVR fees, machine rental fees, etc, etc, etc - it sure adds up fast), the reality is for many, not all, but many retailers are lucky to make even 5% profit on a sale.

So when you see another retailer selling any at 5% below what B&H is doing, you'd better be real careful and ask again, why?.

The same issue is true for many "big box" retail stores.  Why do you think these guys twist your arm ten ways to Sunday to try and get you to buy an extended warranty?    That, or overpriced cables is the only real place they make any money
