Where to get z3100 oil
« on: March 14, 2008, 09:09:19 am »

I have the part numnber for the HP z3100 oil as  6040-0854
Does anyone know where I can buy it?

I was amused when an HP rep said that since my printer will jump out of warranty in a few weeks I should get the extended warranty from them.   THe cost of their bogus plan is such that in three years of their ex warranty I can buy another printer anyway.   What a joke.
I need to maintain this thing on my own.
clean and oil the bar etc.

Charles,

I didn't know you could buy a new Z3100 for $1499.

Anyway, the part number for the 4 oz bottle of oil is 6040-0855.

Oh, I thought he said per year.  Still the thing cost 3000 new and to pay half the cost of the original unit for extended warranty for a few years is bogus. Sounds like they expect it to break down alot if they want so much.

I have the part# but I dont know where to go. I guess calling HP is one possibility. I would also be trying to get the latest pinch rollers out of them too then.

The HP Parts Store where you need to order the oil is at 1-800-227-8164.

Realize that the extended warranty is $750/ year for two additional years and that a single visit from a tech could be $1000 or more. Also, without the extended warranty, you will not be eligible for any hardware upgrades including pinch rollers without paying for the parts and labor...a very expensive proposition.

The price for the extended warranty on the Epson 7600 was almost identical, as I recall. I passed on it, and this was a smart bet as the 7600 is built like an anvil; mine keeps working fine even when I let it sit idle for months. I may have to spring for the extended warranty on the Z3100. It's a bit more temperamental in my experience, though worth it for the image quality and quad black capability.
