Help! - Printing problems with Lightroom
« on: March 05, 2008, 06:15:50 am »

I have been using Lightroom on a Mac for almost a year and it is great. I have hardly used the Print module, but printed from Photoshop with custom profiles to an Epson 4000.

However, I now have a Canon IPF 6100 printer and want to take advantage of the templates in Lightroom for printing multiple images on roll paper.

For colour management I can use 'manage by printer' and set colour controls to Colorsynch, and all is ok.  But when I want to print using profiles, custom or canned, the problems begin.
With the colour management set to one of the relevant profiles, and 'no colour control' set in the print driver, the profiles seem to be ignored and the print comes out all wrong! I have tried both rendering intents and difference is minimal.
The same print sent from Photoshop using the correct profile is fine.  I have tried the same thing with the Epson printer with the same results, so it is not a printer specific problem.

Just to mention also that the profiles I am trying to use are specific to the printer in question.

I wish to use paper other than Canon, and want to create more profiles (X_RITE).

If anyone has any suggestions I would be eternally grateful!

Jim

By the way, I have scoured the forum for this problem and have taken on board the advice, which mostly involves "Make sure and disable the colour controls in the driver".

I think you'll find it's Leopard problem, as yet unresolved. Are you using Leopard?

You might also want to read the article written by Ian Lyons (here), also related to Leopard!

Bill and Francois

Thank you for your replies. Bill's link did not seem to work, but from what I can gather it is a Lightroom/Leopard problem.  After pulling my hair out for a couple of days at least I have realised that it is not me!
The new printer works fine from Photoshop, but it appears that printing from Lightroom is not possible for now.  I am trying to get the new drivers from Canon to see if they make a difference.

If anyone else has any suggestions pleas let me know.

Eureka!

After downloading the latest drivers for the Canon iPF6100 and installing them, I have made a profile by printing from Photoshop, applied it in Lightroom and got a great print!

Thank you for your input guys.
