Professional Studio setup
« on: March 04, 2008, 12:53:57 pm »

Hi all,

I wish to setup a professional small business studio and am looking to make decision as to purchase equipment towards it (in phases).

At my home setup - i have Mac Pro & Macbook, Huey Pro and HP B9180 printer.

For my small studio - i would like to add a wide format printer and professional (maybe eye-one or spyder) colorimeter (that that lets me profile papers etc) and maybe a RIP....

Can someone who has a small business share their equipment list? Mabe i missed a few things and need to consider it as well.

A few things i am looking into are:
1. Epson 9800/9600 vs HP Z3100/2100 or are there better options?
2. Ink cost, Availability of 3rd party inks
3. Standardize on paper choices (FbAl looks good - but does not work out economic)
4. What do you do when a printer fails? close shop until printer is fixed?
5. How do you accept orders? Do you need an online shop/system setup?

any tips/suggestions welcome! Thanks in advance...

Thanks for your help printmaker! Do you recommend some workshops to attend? I was thinking of either Lenswork's new workshop on printmaking or Bill Atkinson's master class... any tips?
