Mamiya 35mm aperture sticky
« on: March 01, 2008, 02:46:58 am »

This week I got a ZD back and a Mamiay 645AFD II. I bought a bunch of used lenses from KEH. I got a great looking 35mm 3.5 AF but after a few photos the aperture stuck stopped down after taking a photo. When I looked through the viewfinder it was dark. Then on my next photo it went back to normal. It has only happened once but I haven't taken many photos yet.

Do you think that this a serious lens defect? I'm a bit lazy to exchange but if it is a serious lens problem I should.

I never had this problem with my Canon lenses.

Thx,
Bill

May have been a random incident, but it probably just needs a basic cla. Very common procedure, should cost around $100-$150 depending where you take it or send it.

If its been within 2 weeks id call keh and have them fix it for you.

Could be nothing.
You should try your lens at different aperture and play back and forth for each with the DOF preview... Don't do it like for hours just 3-4 times for each and look from the front lens to see how the diaph goes.

And by the way at least send an email to KEH to let them know what happened.

Thx for the advice. I've been trying it for a while and it hasn't shown any more problems. I'll check with KEH this week.

KEH has a pretty good return policy, but don't wait to long to try to exchange it.
They also offer extended warranties with their products.

Thx,

I contacted them but I found that my 120 Macro stuck wide open on one shot. So now I suspect the camera or the contacts of the camera. I'll try cleaning the contacts and see what happens.
