HP Z2100 Printer Utility Problem
« on: February 29, 2008, 09:27:31 am »

Hi,

I've just installed the new "HP Printer Utility" which appears to replace to previous "Easy Printer Care".  The printer is connected via USB and I can print ok from Photoshop.  The firmware and printer driver have been upgraded.

Unfortunately the HP Printer Utility gives the message "There are no supported printers in your printers folder.  You need to add one or click 'Find Other Printers'".

Needless to say, it never finds another printer!

Whilst I can still print I now have no means of handling paper profiling or seeing ink levels.

Any ideas on how I can get the software to see the printer?

Thanks

I had the same problem about 2 weeks ago. All I did was unplug usb from computer, shut off printer, re-connect usb, and turn on printer. Then the computer should be able to printer. Have you downloaded latest drivers and firmware?

Yes, tried all that - I've also tried reinstalling all software and drivers.

To keep working I've now reinstalled Easy Printer Care which does still work!

Are the drivers and firmware all at the proper levels?  I would imagine that the printer utility queries the driver to find out where the printer is.

The USB connectivity for this family really blows.

Unplug it, remove all the software using the install programs to choose Remove.

Reboot, reinstall the software, then plug the printer in and let it redetect.

Or simply go ethernet and never have an issue again, and have better speed.

USB on printers is always a pain.
I had one Canon and one HP previously : lost so much time with USB.
By the way, how do you go Ethernet with the Z3100 ?
With this ? : Gigabit Ethernet HP Jetdirect 625n J7960A, J7960G

You do not need to add anything. All versions of the Z3100 come ready for ethernet connection.

There is an ethernet port on the back, just plug it in.  Going wifi is the same as any other perf.  Get a wireless bridge.
