Lightroom or Mac
« on: February 27, 2008, 11:51:45 am »

I have been using lightroom since the beta version, but I was using it on a PC.  I recently bought a MacBook Pro, and I loaded Lightroom on it, to start changing over to Mac.  All of my images and files are on a externall HD, and they loaded perfectly to LR on my Mac.  So now I'm ready to load some images from my camera (the card )  I have the card reader plugged in and my external HD plugged in... I went to import/copy photos to a new location and import. LR, looks like it is reading the images, but none show in the libary and a the end the images don't show anywhere, not in LR and not on my external HD or my Mac HD......  I'm sure I don't have something right, but I cant figure out what... I don't know if its LR, or my Mac......can anyone give me a suggestion?

Thanks

I have done this without difficulty, so its unlikely to be the Mac or Lightroom.

If you open the import dialogue box again it should show you the folder you saved to.

You may have set it to import without moving. However, the last import should still show you the images.

Hi Barb,

I, too, am migrating to the mac and nearly returned my new mac pro because of an inability to import images from any card reader or camera cable, via FW800 or USB, into LR or iPhoto. In my case, however, the machine simply locked up after a few images were imported. After much effort, including initializing the HD and reinstalling the OS, LR and updates, I still had the problem. Curiously, I could walk across the room and successfully import on my wife's iMac using the exact same software. I do have it working now for LR (but not for iPhoto, no great loss). It took 3 days of troubleshooting, and sadly I can't say with any authority what I did to solve the problem. My guess is this: after reinstalling the OS for the second time, I downloaded the trial version of Aperture 2.0. That prompted a software update from Apple that included 2 "Pro Applications ..." updates. These are apparently for Final Cut Pro (which is not installed on my machine) but subsequently I can import from my card readers into both Aperture & LR. If I was truly a kind fellow, I'd uninstall everything and prove the hypothesis but ...
If you're still stuck, you might try installing the Aperture 2.0 trial (http://www.apple.com/aperture/trial/) and doing the Apple Software updates from the Apple menu.
I hope this is helpful,

George
