Adobe Bridge problem
« on: February 26, 2008, 07:33:27 pm »

Not sure if this is the right place to post this topic but I'm getting no responses from Adobe regarding this.

I still completely rely on Bridge and after updating the software to the most recent version Bridge won't now open and it seems like this is a software update issue. Problem is I can't read the CR2 files without updating the software.

Any suggestions?

Which platform: Mac or Windoze? Any error messages when trying to open? Which version of Photoshop are you trying to update (or perhaps upgrade) to?

Hi, the platform is Mac (OS 10.4.11) and I'm using Photoshop CS3 Extended. Bought as part of the CS3 Creative Suite Design Premium.

Did you use CS3 Beta before installing CS3 Extended? If so, it requires a special procedure: "...you CANNOT uninstall by dragging CS3 Applications to the trash, you must use the uninstaller...." (from Adobe instructions).

Also, you might want to try to delete Bridge preferences file (".plist" in Library/Preferences...).

I upgraded to the same programs as you and I had problems running Bridge cs3 too. I think it was an upgrade issue and I had installed the CS3 beta. Bridge CS2 was still functional so I figured I would keep using that until I had the time to do a reformat and reinstall. But I ended up upgrading from the G5 to a Mac Pro last month and after a clean install on the new machine everything seems OK (running OS 10.5.2).
So if you didn't do the uninstall of the beta before installing cs3 you may need to try the reformat and reinstall everything if the other ideas that Slobodan mentioned don't work. Just remember to uninstall CS3 before you do so, as Adobe licensing only allows so many installations without an uninstall being recorded.

I went straight from using CS2 to CS3 Extended so no Beta version. I upgraded to CS3 around August last year and it's worked flawlessly until just recently. Tried deleting the preferences and that hasn't helped.

I'm not sure if this could be the cause of your problems, but I had weird problems with CS3 & Bridge not working right because I had simply moved my various plug-ins from my CS2 directory to my CS3 directory.  This is apparently a no-no; you have to uninstall them from CS2 and reinstall them for CS3, or you get weird seemingly-unrelated problems.  One of the problems I had before I figured out what I had done wrong was that Bridge would often not open.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the whole Create Suite, with and without also adding the plug-ins which are current CS3 plug-ins, and Bridge will work for a short period of time then crash and not open again. PS CS3 works flawlessly btw.

Really strange.
