I can liken the glossy screen to a glossy print.  It's snappy and vivid.  The matte screen mimics a matte print.  It's a bit understated and colors don't "pop."

Here is a link to our web site showing a solution that is great with whichever screen you choose:

I would have thought the glossy screen was like a mirror. I have a 24" matte screen in front of me that's filthy, but you really only notice when it's turned off / screensaver / powerdown.

BTW Chris, when's the new Phase / Mamiya AFD3 available... Phase One europe wouldn't discuss it with me yesterday at Focus on Imaging... In fact, when they learnt I'd bought my back from you, they didn't want to discuss anything. Friendly Bunch!

(Yair was far nicer; lovely to meet him in person, and put a face to the posts)

Jon,

A great screen cleaner is Monster's iClean.  They have a couple of different sizes and it usually comes with a microfiber cleaning cloth.

We hope to have more information in the next few weeks about the new camera system.  I'll post something as soon as we have more news.

Just the sort of thing I need... cleaning a crt screen was so much easier... any cleaning product from the supermarket shelf, and a soft cloth / t-shirt / socks (well maybe not!)

I don't get all the fuss about the glossy screen. I never have problems with it. I take it with me on location, in the studio, at home, etc... I do avoid the sun but the matte is also horrible in the sun.

If I show images to clients on the glossy they are always impressed which is what really counts to me. Yes, you do have to make them look at the screen at a small angle.

I clean my screen with window glass cleaner (Glassex it is called over here and is being sold by every supermarket). Sofar I have the MBP 2 years and no problems whatsoever with cleaning.

I'm surprised re: Glassex! Maybe I'm just being an over cautious old ninny!

What's the real world difference between the 2.4 GHz config and the 2.5 GHz config with the 15" screen?
The 2.4 GHz with 2GB RAM, 200 GB drive,  NVIDIA card with 256 MB is $1999
The 2.5 GHZ with 2GB RAM, 250 GB drive, NVIDIA card with 512 MB is $2499

Will the $500 model give a noticeable difference for tethered capture, RAW processing and PhotoShop work?

You missed out the 6mb cache on the 2.5 processor model; This would be a little more expensive, but should give a reasonable performance advantage, especially when you put in after market +2Gb ram, and have the faster hard drive, and more graphics memory.

General idea is not to have a slow component making all the others wait too long ... that's the way I'm thinking anyway.

I couldn't agree more. I shoot inside and out tethered. If things get bad outside, I use a Lightware hood for the laptop.

Hi,
Getting a New Mac Book Pro 17" on sat . I want to shoot tethered to my H 25 back.
I always shoot in doors with laptop pluged in to AC outlet. Any power issues with the firewire cable not producing enough power?
                                                                 Thanks Bill

How important is a 7200 rpm disk when shooting with my H3D39 and a FW800 cable? Will a 5400 rpm modell slow down the whole setup? I plan to buy the 2,4 Ghz model and of course upgrade to 4GB ram. I shoot people and portraits. Can I expect images to pop up immediatley even after a burst of, lets say, 40 shots?

I am in the same position of trying to decide on the smaller 7200 or bigger 5400 drives. On a video forum I am a member of, where speed is even more important, it was stated that on 2.5" drives the speed differences are not as relevant as they are on 3.5" drives. It was also mentioned that the 250gig drive has higher density, which will also speed up seek times. So the difference may be very minimal. I personally will probably go for the larger drive.

Hope this helps.
