Image size problem in CS3
« on: February 24, 2008, 12:35:54 am »

What am I doing wrong?

1. Created a new document size 4 by 6 inches.

2. Downsized two photos with height being 4 inches, width 3 inches. Should exactly fit into the 4 by
6 document with no space left.

Well, it doesn't.

There is space, probable 1/16th of an inch left on the bottom.

I bought CS3 only 3 months ago, so I'm sure it's something really simple.

I'm just wondering what?

Why don't the two documents fit? Why is 4 inches different in each?

Thanks!

Do you have "scale to fit media" checked in the print dialog box?

Your resolutions have to match--you probably have different resolutions between the different documents and the new file.

Sounds like a pixelissue to me.

Did you set up the new doc with exactly the same dpi/ppi as the existing docs that you combined? Do the two docs have the same dpi and pixelcount on both sides?

Remember that Photoshop works with pixels and pixels-per-inch as opposed to distance metrics.

I suspect that if you have both old docs in 4x3 inch at say 300ppi (i.e. 12000 pixels x 9000 pixels), and the new doc is 4x6 inch at the same 300ppi (i.e. 12000 pixels x 18000 pixels) it should all fit seamlessly.

Hi, Jerry

I actually didn't print it.

I made the height of the photo the same as the height of the blank document I was pasting it into.

Both set to inches, not to pixels.

So, six inches should be six inches, shouldn't it?

So just setting the document size to inches isn't enough?

I followed your steps and was able to do the downsize and then move each picture into the new document and everything worked.  Both pictures were the same size.  Try going back and moving the pictures to the bottom of the frame and see if the gap shows up at the top.

In PS3 I just took two images one from a D70 and one from a MFDB.
1. Opened both images
2. Created a new image that is 4 x 6
3. Downsized one of the images to 4 x 3 and moved to new image
4. Downsized the second image to 4 x3 and moved to new image
Done and worked

Tom

PS Even got a warning about the different bit depths of the pictures.

I simply did the whole thing again, and this time it worked flawlessly.

I don't know why it didn't the first time. I'm pretty sure both documents were set to 300ppi.

All of you, thank you for  your support!
