CANON BATTERIES

I have (so far) pretty good experiences with the following brands:

Hahmel (sp?), for the PowerShot S40
GP, 511A replacement for the 20D

The former has proved to live longer than Canon's original batteries, and is in markedly better shape after two years than Canon's was after the same time.

The GP performs similarly to the original 511A as far as I can tell, but I've only taken about 3400 shots with my 20D, so I can't exactly claim to have stress-tested either the original or the GP.

I have bought after market batteries for my 1Ds Mk II, and S70, both from a place on the web called mydigitaldiscount.com. Fast reliable service, great prices. Highly recommended.

Something to think about...

You really need to run any new BP-511 battery through a few charge/discharge cycles to realize its full potential to hold a decent charge. Allow enough time for that before your trip.

I have two Canon BP-511 (7.4V 1100mAh Li-ion) batteries for my Canon 10D.  I'm going on an extended trip, away from electricity, and plan on purchasing 2 to 3 additional batteries for this trip (5 days into the boudary waters in MN).  My question is does anyone have experience with after market BP-511 batteries which are a fraction of the cost of Canon BP-511's?  I'm concerned with the after market batteries holding a charge, quality of power, and any other thing that would ruin a much anticipated adventure / photo trip.
The other option is to go with a solar charger, but it seems that that is a more expensive and bulkier option.
Any input is appreciated!
