Finding a camera for my father
« on: February 14, 2008, 08:08:45 am »

Greetings good people

The last "good" camera that my father used is a Mamiya twin lens reflex that used "120 film"? Is this right? (Dad was photographing with this camera until circa 1970).

Thanks to our good friends at Google I have discovered that Mamiya is a real camera!

My understanding from Dad is that there was "bellows" available (that he used) and that there was some sort of telephoto lens available.

My question is: is it possible to obtain a similar (better?) quality camera, accessories and film now?

Digital is probably well out of my price range and certainly beyond my Fathers level of understanding so all I want is camera and film. If such a beast still exists I would be interested in knowing the (approximate) film processing costs.

If someone would help me I would be most grateful.

Thank you.

Ivan.

Sounds like a Mamiya C-Series, C3, C33, C330, C2, C22, C220...

It always has a bellows included and there is a 180mm and 250mm telephoto lens available.

They are discontinued but you can still buy those Mamiyas used on eBay and used-camera-markets. The film, 120'er (and 220'er too), is still available.

As far as I know there are no similar or better twin lens reflex cameras with interchangable lenses but the Mamiya C-Series.

You can decide. C-series or fixed twin-lens or changable single-lense.

The Mamiya's are really good little cameras for what they cost and fun to shoot with.

Even in the film years they were cheap used and good value.

Hi

Try this link for Mamiya C220 [a href=\"http://www.mxv.co.uk/mamiyatlr.asp]http://www.mxv.co.uk/mamiyatlr.asp[/url] they are based in the UK, they sold all my old film equipment for me when I switched to digital.

Good luck
Mike
