I made the decision to night to get the 1DS MKIII, and oh yeah, NO STOCK. What's that all about?

So there's one advantage of the 5D over the 1DS Mark III.

That's because they have your money already.  All the new ones get sold.   So you're on the top of the "when there's no more demand we'll give you one" list.

Sad, very, very sad. That's true. You ordered one, and even though they can't charge your card until it ships, you're in the bag already. Those with cash get theirs first. I'm tempted to call that camera store above and order it, except it may be a 2007 model, which probably isn't a problem. But knowing I'll get a brand new 2008 model, after dropping 8KUS, is psychologically fulfilling.

Nope- I ordered early November - received about 6 days ago now.

And.. I had one on order at two different shops in Australia.

1DS MKIII's are like the proverbial rocking horse $hit at the moment - RARE.

Maybe they've stopped shipping or delayed while their QC dept has a look at them.

There are a ton of post here and elsewhere on a myriad of problems with the camera.

In the UK there's no shortage of 1Ds MkIII's, in fact the price is now being cut.

well... the one I bought at murphys 2 weeks ago has the current filmware and all.... it's not "old"

I think if you hit stores in not so big citys like louisville and cinci and such... you'll find them on the shelves.

But beware.... once you have one you start looking for the finest glass..... like the 35 1.4 L, and the 85 1.2L, 70-200 f4 L.....  this camera is not very forging of what it sees through.

But I gotta tell ya...... the 35mm 1.4 wide open on the 1ds3 is amazing!

Hey! Maybe you'll get lucky and get a 2009 model!

I do hope you get yours before you pull all your hair out by the roots.

This is interesting. How about in Canada?  I think the US dollar is still greater than the Canadian dollar. I wonder if I could purchase one in Canada at a smaller store? Anyone have  a phone number?

I can also vouch for Murphy's, as a resident of "LA" (Louisville area--hey, we're the 14th largest metro area in the US, as every sign at the border proudly proclaims.)

Ask for Tim or Alan when you call, but anyone can help you.

Michael:
Thanks for the lead. I just now called and bought the camera. I think I blew away the person I spoke to when I asked if he had one, and then said "OK-I will buy it, overnight delivery". I have been on two wait lists, so again thank you very much for the lead. I make 20"x30" seascapes for sale in a resort area, so having the capability to deliver state of the art prints is important to me.

It's funny. You would think that American's would finally get over the bigger is better mentality. As we all know, large metropolitan areas can be very nightmarish compared to planned communities of no more than 60-100,000. Oh well.
