MFDB for High Volume applications
« on: January 30, 2008, 09:51:11 am »

I am looking for a MFDB solution that can handle high volume catalog applications. I'd want to be able shoot tethered and cut and paste SKU, item name, item description into meta tags in the RAW converter then have images output to multiple sizes as JPGs and a master TIF or PSD saved to appropriate folders where they will be grabbed by DB and e-commerce apps. Are any of the MFDB + software suites more suited to this sort of automation and volume then others?

IQ of all the major RAW processors and digital backs is more then adequate for the application so it's workflow and productivity that will determine which system solution we go with. Anyone have experience to share?

Capture One Pro allows you to create iptc templates and do metatagging.

Hasselblad is currently working on new software that might just do everything you´re looking for...

What you need to do is get a couple dealers to show you a workflow on their system that will make it all go smoothly for you.  Seeing things first hand is always best.  Let them know what you need and have them show you how fast or complicated it is.

That I plan on doing but it I always like to hear from photographers actually using the solutions in production.

It seems like all the manufacturers have major new software releases coming out but everyone's release dates keep getting pushed back. So I'm going to look at what's already out and proven in the field.

Hank,

We have several high volume clients that are using Capture One Pro and using the IPTC Editor to add metadata.  I can contact them and see if they are open to discussing their workflow.  Please send me an e-mail or PM and we can discuss it.
