new panos from the mountains in andalucia

If you have  a flickr account you can see these even larger at

These are all in the sierra nevada mountain range in southern Spain, just outside the city of Loja.

I did about 12 of these in an afternoon, and am trying to decide which to pass on to the tourism board there.  (they´re a client of mine)

Part of my concept is to show humans or cars to kind of comment on the whole man+nature idea and to also give a sort of reference to the places I shoot.

Comments and critique would be fantastic.

All are very nice. I prefer #2, for the symmetry of it. I like how my eye is drawn deeper into all of the images.

Exploring your theme, do you think improving the windmills as an element would bring attention to the man+nature element? They seem to be lost in the wash. Not sure it would provide location information, though. Here in the US, there's a lot of debate over the aesthetics of windmills, but I think they add a sense of scale context, as well as being architecturally beautiful. We have our own High Sierra, but not like Andalusia. And many fewer windmills.

My $0.02.

I like the first one the most.  I think in all 3 its a pity that the wind generators are there; at their current scale they're too incidental to the main picture to appear "rightfully there". That does not mean they should be avoided, rather, they should play a bigger role in the composition - they are a fixed part of the scenery and do contribute to answering your brief and their clean, sculpted shapes would contrast beautifully with the rugged landscape.

thanks for the input guys!  Remember that these images will also be printed at 1 to 2 meters wide, so the seemingly small elements become more and more important in larger format.  But point well taken on the windmills.  Here people have no issue with the windmills because they´re a great source of renewable energy.  Better than seeing oil rigs IMO.  But it definitely adds a man made element to a protected area like the sierras in Spain.

Also, this part of the mountain region isn´t really photographed that often, and normally not all that well, so I´m excited to have somewhat untouched material to work with.  Most go towards Granada and shoot the snowy mountain tops, etc.  If you wander over to the flickr gallery where the rest are posted you´ll see more shots with a car mirror in the one edge, someone on a path looking out to the mountains, etc.

Another thing, I´m trying to keep the landscapes as the protagonists and keeping the windmills as supporting cast, perse.  That´s my only hook on not making them more prevalent.

Loving the feedback, keep it coming!
