Is it just me... or is this new little thing really really interesting???

"Wide dynamic range for shots no other compact can duplicate"

"High sensitivity without noise", "ISO 3,200 at 12MP", "ISO 12,800 at 3MP"

No raw, but... if JPG camera like S5 why need raw in compact??

Yes, it is interesting, but it would be a lot more interesting if it had RAW.  It is an error not to include it (especially since they could have done so without really adding significantly to the cost of the camera).

This might have been the pocket camera of choice for many serious or professional DSLR users if it had RAW.   We want RAW for the same reasons we have it with our DSLR's -- to control the image produced, make our own choices as to how the image is to be processed, and to assure to maximum quality available.  There are a lot of people that would have bought this if it had RAW capability.  I would have been one of them.  As it is, it is just another consumer P&S.  Maybe my mother will get one.

Leaving RAW out of this camera is a mistake.  Hopefully Fuji can correct it.

I agree that leaving out RAW is unfortunate.  When I need to carry only a pocket camera instead of my whole DSLR, I carry the Fujifilm F30 (a predecessor of this camera), and my only two complaints about it are lack of sufficient dynamic range for many, many situations and lack of RAW.  I occasionally think about getting one of the digicams with RAW, but then look at the reviews on dpreview and see that there's much more image noise in them than in the F30's photos, so I go back to the F30 despite its limitations.  If they've greatly improved the dynamic range with the F100, I'll probably get it to replace the F30 despite the lack of RAW.  But that "probably" would have become "put me on the waiting list NOW" if it had RAW too.

This one has got me going too.  5.4 oz, at that size, with all that imaging capability.  I'll wait for the tests though, because 12 Mp. in a 1/1.6 sensor with clean hi-ISO is a little hard to believe.  If it's at all decent, I'm buying.
Think of the sort of photos this looks to be good for:  those grab shots where you don't have time to compose.  I hope it's that fast.  Consider that IQ will be equal to or better than the G-9, at 1/3 the weight.  A good JPG is much better than no image, and I'll be very likely to have this featherweight in reach ALL the time.  As for the quality difference between JPG and RAW, I promise that there are very few people who can truly discern that.  If you set up the orig. image to get the least in-camera processing, and then batch convert directly from the card into TIF, DNG or PSP format, the difference is academic.

I have the F30, this one's ancestor, and it's pretty quick.  I've used several digicams, most of which were annoyingly slow, but this one isn't.  Not quite as fast as a DSLR, but fast enough that it isn't a problem.

Where I really want RAW is is dynamic range.  You can get substantially more dynamic range out of a RAW image using ACR compared with the pre-baked JPG.  That is, what's burnt out to white in a JPG is sometimes recoverable in ACR, so you can expose more to the right to reduce shadow noise.  But if the F100 can really deliver a decent dynamic range to start with (which I'll believe when I see it, not just after listening to marketing hype), then RAW becomes much less important to me.
