Other than that the second looks infinitely better than the original? As far as just cropping goes, I think you'd done a very good job of removing the distracting elements and focusing on the primary subject, with enough around it to make the eye wonder a little...

I'd leave in all the sky, the composition needs more negative space.

Thanks Tom. I have cropped a version as you suggested and I do appreciate the additional negative space. Do you think that the overall framing (LxW) works as well that way?
