ZD has PROBLEM

Ian,

Lets bear in mind your location of Palm Springs California, just like Sydney for Denis (mcfoto) it is a very sunny place. The ZD is sensitive to light, which also effect. Thus I imply that not only the DR of white and black can effect but also light intensities.

Anders

Two of the features I shot were indoors, although strobed. The other was indeed outdoors in partially sunny to overcast conditions. Most of my shooting was done at iso50 and 100 however I did some random shooting at 200 and 400. While 400 was certainly noisier than a Canon or Olympus, it was still useable for what I needed.

Yes the 645ZD is probably best at iso50 and 100 or so. But if you need something specifically otherwise than maybe it was the wrong purchase for you. Then again maybe you had an earlier version which has been improved in later cameras. That happens, look at the Canon MkIII problems which dwarf anything Mamiya has had to correct.

I am sure your experience has been frustrating but I would not immediately assume that the entire camera design is faulty. Perhaps more than anything else, your dealer is at fault.

Should I return the back?

Dear KR8TVE

I see banding there. But then again, I´ve seen it before too. With different cameras and manufacturers. Usually when picture has been underexposed and the shadows have been pushed heavily up in photoshop.

If that is unmanipulated crop of shadows in normally exposed  ZD-picture then next question is, can You repeat that result? If You can, contact the dealer where You bought the back/camera.

Also use the mamiya software or RD or silky pix. If you still have the problem send it back. I had to exchage my ZD back aslo. But now with my new one I'm happy as can bee.

I attached thre shots I made with it. One is a 100 % crop but I added some grain.

Somebody mentioned Moire patters in a posting way back. Yep, I too have found these appearing far too readily when using a Metz CL45 flash. Not had the unit long enough to notice it in other conditions. Otherwise it is capable of cracking shots if you can cope with the build quality of the AFDII and even the back itself, not forgetting the noise issue and the expense of a spare battery.
