HP Z3100 -- service manual
« on: January 27, 2008, 12:31:11 am »

My final posting for the day.   I haven't posted in months due to the long, long saga of overcoming the software problems with Vista (see other posting).  Now that is resolved, I can provide a few other tips I ran across.

Also, many thanks to those who posted in my thread on "HP Z3100 -- settings for new papers."  Greatly appreciated.  Feel free to add any other "exotic" papers, not just those that I listed.

My guess is that HP wouldn't want any of us to have the service manual.  But I found the below link through Google, and if I found it, so can all of you.  I'd note that I have two manuals.  A previous posting provided a link to buy the Z2100 service manual.  That is a different manual from this one, which is a combined Z2100/Z3100 service manual.  I have no idea which is the real McCoy -- or whether either of them are the actual manuals provided to HP techs in the field:

The above link starts an actual download of 6 different parts.  So you can also try the main page, and just search under "Z2100":

Hi,
I was able to download the 6 parts, but when I go to expand the files, I receive an error code
17540 - an error occured while decoding.

I'm on Mac OS X and the file shows as an RAR file.

Do I need a later version of Expander?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, and so long for now, TOM

Thanks for the link.  I downloaded the 6 files and used WINACE to try to extract the files.  I put all six RAR files in one directory, and started the extraction with Part1.  It created a PDF that appears to be the entire Z2100/3100 manual, of some 16 0r 17mb.

When I tried to extract parts 2-6 I got error messages.  However, I think I got the whole manual in PDF form.  It has chapters (parts) 1-9.  Is that all?

The info is very useful.  It mentions a cleaning utility part that is supposed to come with the Z3100, but I do not remember seeing it when I unpacked the printer.  Did other people get this?

The web site is very confusing.  I also thought I needed the special program that they mention.

You don't.  As I recall, I simply downloaded all six parts.  Then I clicked on one of them, either the first or the last.  The program ran automatically and connected it all together, and gave me a PDF

I'd suggest deleting what you have, downloading again, and trying that.

Finally got it to work.

Looks like a very useful manual.

Thanks much.

Marty,
Thanks for the link. It's quite a detailed and well put together document. All anyone would care to know about the printer. (most of it is more than I need to know) Might come in handy.

Great info! Thanks for the link.

I think I found the solution to my problem of printing large high rez vector graphics (resolution charts) which results in clipped images. Description of the problem on page 176 in the manual. Basically software related - internal 16-bit coordinates used for printing in older versions of Acrobat, Illustrator, CorelDraw etc. Now I'm just waiting for paper to try it (I ran out).
