Phocus anyone?
« on: January 16, 2008, 10:59:24 am »

Now, we Hasselblad users have been promised the new Phocus software being available for download as of the end of 2007.

Heck, that is still on their website even.

Most of us already figured that it would be next to impossible to even have a pre-release of Phocus by that time. It is now mid January and still no sign of any release?

I am lusting for the moire removal, native 3FR and one additional ISO stop. Has anyone heard anything? Any information on what its release means for older backs?

While visiting a local pro shoppe yesterday, I happened upon a friendly Hasselblad Technical Specialist I've known for years.  He showed me a pre-PublicBeta version of Phocus on his 15" MacBookPro running Leopard.  It looked great GUI-wise.  I was especially happy Phocus can show two captures side-by-side to compare; and that the thumbnails and full-rez preview can be on separate displays.  There wasn't enough time to go through the software entirely, but what I saw seemed well thought out and logical.

i know, I cant wait either - I love FC for some things (static 1:1 windows are clever), but comparison stuff, editing - esp. w/ clients around - is a nightmare export to PS situation - whereas LR did it all before and more (selects to web, contact sheets, etc)

oh Phocus where art thou?

I learned to manage Raw Shooter within a few hours. I still have problems getting an acceptable look with Flexcolor. If not for the DAC with the 28 and 35 I`d simply forget about FC.

So I´m on the waiting list for Phocus, too.

Well, Flexcolor isn't that hard to learn but I must confess I probably have a big advantage over most people. Having spent lots of time with soft-and hardware since early childhood (some 30 years ago) does make one learn any application fairly quickly.

I am not a big fan of Flexcolor but it does work. I would greatly applaud any efforts from Hasselblad to make sure ACR can read 3FR with all DAC corrections. This would be a big step forward and giving us more options of processing our files.

I have quite a list of stuff I would like to see in future versions.  One of those things are hot folders! Why isn't any party spending some time on implementing hot folders?

I have spend quite a few hours last weeks correcting moire  Now this is just eating up time. Some of my friends consider me a total loony that I correct at that level because 'the clients' don't see it. Even if they don't, I do and I simply will not spread images with stuff like that in it.

I think my family will love Hasselblad for the anti-moire tool. It is the difference between spending the evening behind the monitor or being there for my kids

I wish they would start releasing something, if only a Beta version. I can live with that, I always have the option of falling back to 4.8.3.

I doubt it will ever work. With color moiré yes, but with luminance moiré?

And I think it will take a long time before we see anything, even a beta version.

I´m a skeptical nature. Especially with a big mouth company like Hasselblad ("enjoy the world`s most advanced" etc.).

Well, I wonder which we will see first: Public release of  Phocus or or public release of C1 4.0 Pro ?

Flexcolor 4.8.4 just released so perhaps that hints the Phocus is sometime away. I hope not.
The 4.8.4 does support tethered shoot for Leopard which is goo news.

Flexcolor will continue to run alongside Phocus until all the bugs in Phocus are ironed out.
