PhaseOne P45+ & Adobe Lightroom Question

Adobe claims that Adobe Lightroom supports PhaseOne P45+ RAW files.

However, my Adobe Lightroom's (Ver. 1.3.1) [Windows XP version] display is horrible for P45+ files. But I'm able to process those P45+ RAW files in Capture One Pro 3.7.7 without any problem.

Am I missing any set-up in Adobe Lightroom?

C1 has a lot of default tweaking of the P45+ file, you need to shoot differently (more ETTR) as well as post process a lot more, if you want to go the Lightroom/Camera raw route.

Also if you do go for Lightroom/Camera RAW, I suspect that C1 subtracts the firmware embedded calibration from your back, where as Lightroom/Camera RAW does not. So if you have a back that has a lot of calibration needed (some need more than others) then your experience with adobe products may be less satisfactory than other owners of the same back.

My P45+ files display beautifully in Lightroom 1.3.1 right out of the camera, with no adjustments. In fact, I prefer (slightly) the Lightroom rendering of the P45+ raw files over Capture One. With LR, unlike with PS, you don't have to separately install ACR. Everything is contained in the 1.3.1 download. So I'm not sure what the problem could be. I'm on a Mac, however, so it may be a Windows thing. Good luck.

Like Mort, I find that my P45+ LR conversions are excellent.  But Lightroom's initial 'guess' at how the file should be rendered is often poorly color balanced.  C1's initial rendering is spot on.  I shoot nature, so my lighting is always different.  If you are in the studio, you can set LR to the proper balance for your strobes.

It takes an extra step or two to bring the LR conversion in line, but I also find it rivals C1's quality (as of LR v1.3, not so for previous versions).

To specify further:

My lightroom and ACR conversions are also great from my P45+ files. But it does show a centrefold issue if i push the exposure slider all the way to one or the other side on some images. Also the P45+ files in ACR has a definite difference (albeit small) in color across the frame, it shows up the same with all lenses, so it is not a function of the lens to be corrected in LLC. These troubles only show in studio situations with even lighting. I do have a support case on this (as some on the forum already know) and will report on my findings at a future point in time.

The troubles show equally on both a back from the 4xx serial and 8xx serial, so it is not a faulty one off back.

I agree with Bradley on the color balance - I forgot to mention it in my post. LR (and ACR in PS) doesn't seem to interpret P45+ WB correctly. The colors are always too cool, and the hue is off a bit as well. It's pretty consistent, so it's easy to just warm things up a bit and tweak the hue.

Yes, my images were High-Key Studio images. I will shoot landscape this weekend and will see how that works.
