1.3.1 Upgrade causing CD/DVD Driver failure
« on: January 04, 2008, 01:59:16 pm »

I haven't seen this reported elsewhere, and if it has been - apologies.  Whenever I upgrade my 1.3 version of LR to 1.3.1 I lose the ability to use my Samsung CD/DVD writer.  Specifically, the device driver becomes invalid (little yellow exclamation in Windows device window).  If I roll back to my settings before the upgrade, everything is ok.  I can repeat this error, but so far have been unsuccessful in solving it.

Samsung TSSTCorp cd/dvd WRITER
ms dRIVER 5.1.2535.0
sh-182m

Any ideas?  uninstalling and reinstalling the driver does nothing . . My only way back up, is to rollback prior to the 1.3.1 upgrade (which I would like to move to).

Thanks for your help!

You're better off going to the Adobe LR forums and asking there.

hmmmm . . . I'm wondering if the Adobe Photo uploader utility is monitering that drive?  Try bringing it up and excluding it.

Thanks for the suggestions.

iii:  I am unable to post to the Adobe Forums for some reason.  Kind of kills me - since I have family on the Photoshop team, and have been a user since the Earth's crust was cooling.  I've sent off email to gawd knows everyone I think should be able to help (support) to no avail.  Maybe this will give me the kick in the pants that I need to try again to get posting privs enabled...  The error is "No access" ? ?

John:  I tried disabling Adobe Photo Uploader altogether, but it made no difference unfortunately.

Thx again both of you!

Try Microsoft article #314060 at their support web page.

That was it trops - thx (slapping my forehead for not checking the MS site first).

The "Guided Help" cleared up the conflict.  Following the instructions I:

Uninstalled the NEro software I had been using to burn CD/DVDs
Ran the Guided Help
Reinstalled LR1.3.1
Reloaded Nero and bam --- errors.

Back to square one:
Uninstalled the NEro software I had just installed
Ran the Guided Help
Reinstalled LR1.3.1
Loaded Roxio Easy CD Creator and everything is fine.

I suspect that 1.3.1 somehow awoke a Nero beast of an issue on this pc.  In any case - I am not fiddling with it anymore.  Everything works.

Appreciate the help and suggestions from all.

Joe,

Had the same trouble myself running Nero with Vista - eventually dumped Nero and ran with the Roxio application supplied with the new machine. On my older machine running XP, I had no problems with Nero.

It was indeed a weird problem to track down.  I had been using Nero for only a couple of months (new pc build), but the 1.3.1 update awoke some gremilin on my pc, that was Nero-related.  In any case - I like the Roxio package just fine (and am afraid of messing up a working system) ;~)   -- so Roxio it is.
