PK Sharpener question???
« on: December 30, 2007, 04:48:45 pm »

Hi All

As it appears that to ask questions at PixelGenius you already need to be trying/using PKS I am a bit stymied & as I wish to make use of the trial period as best as possible I do not want to lose time waiting on them to answer what I hope are very straight forward questions !

So, I hope LL folk can throw some light (no pun intended) on my question.

For the output sharpening when using commercial labs I read that you use the Contone Output sharpener but what I would welcome some feedback on is this.

What level of Contone is required for (this presumes I have understood the correct output sharpener is the Contone):-

1) Fuji Frontier 370 or 390 - these are very commonly used in pro commercial labs and print at 300dpi

2) Polielectronica Laserlab - this is used at Photobox UK for prints larger than 15"x10" and has a default of 254dpi

3) HP Indigo Press (in the case of Photobox they have the 5000 model) - these are being used print the likes of "book" style photo albums

I hope the above makes sense and I am prepared to invest in PKS to get the best possible printed output at the commercial labs but as I see it I need the feedback to aid me in ensuring the first few test prints I get doen have been prepared as well as I can do it in the trial period.

TIA

Contone 300

Not familiar with the brand name...but if it's a photo laser printer then treat it as contone and use the closest resolution of Contone 267

What resolution are you sending? The Indigo is a CMYK press, so use Halftone Output and choose Coated and select the output resolution you are sending...
