Epson 3800 from Lightroom under OS X anyone?
« on: December 30, 2007, 01:34:09 pm »

I wonder if anyone else here has experienced a noticeable color shift when printing from LR under OS X using 3rd party paper profiles?  While the output is not obviously defective, the result differs too much from the LR screen image, such that it's a throw away.

First of all, ALL software, drivers, etc. are the latest, monitor is hw calibrated, and color management in the driver is OFF.

1. If I specify a non-epson paper profile in LR, there's is discernible color shift to yellow / green in the Print Preview from within the driver.  Clicking on the Softproof checkbox adds a tiny bit of extra color saturation as well.  In other words, the Print Preview image does not look the same as the LR edit optimized image.  If I follow through with printing, the print output *matches* the print profile screen image (which again ... is defective).

2. If I specify a Leopard shipped Epson paper profile in LR, the Print Preview is pretty much a perfect match to what I see in LR, and the print output again matches the Preview screen image, which is good at least.

Q.  What is going wrong when specifying 3rd party application managed paper profiles in LR??
Note: I installed the trial Appeture and ran the same test using the HFA3800FineArePearlPK.icc profile.  The Print Preview looked correct and matched the screen image in Appeture, so this points to Lightroom 1.3.1.  Prior to the update, the profiles worked.

Here are a couple of examples.  Note the file names on the sample images.
