TC9.18: two different patch targets

Hi there,

I know that the TC9.18 patch target has 918 patches in it, as the name says. Here in Germany however a profile service advertises a "TC9.18 936 patches". The ad says:

"The test chart TC9.18 RGB consists of 936 patches. It was developed by X-Rite/GretagMacbeth in cooperation with Epson to achieve a very accurate and fine color tuning of inkjet printers with 6 and more colors".

I used the service to make such a profile for me on Harman Gloss and I am very pleased with the result.

Now that I have the chance to rent an i1 Photo I would like to ask whether the 936 patch target is part of the standard software delivery, and whether it makes sense to use this one in favor to the 918 patch target on an Epson K3 printer.

The TC 9.18 is a standard GMB target, the other I've never heard of. But with MeasureTool you can build any target you so desire (you could type in 938 if you wanted and could have such a target). As long as the reference file and target file are in sync, you can use it (unlike many other profile packages).

The service sounds somewhat suspicious in the part about a target developed with Epson, I know of no such target, at least in the US. Could be an issue in translation?

Depending on the Epson and driver, I'd like more than 936 patches. 1729-4096 work quite well as Bill Atkinsion has demonstrated with his targets.

Thanks Andrew. I already looked at the targets from Bill. I hope I can get them to work within the weekend that I have time to play with this rented i1.

Regarding the translation: well, the german ad says:

Der dazugehörige Testchart TC9.18 RGB hat 936 Farbmessfelder und wurde von X-Rite/GretagMacbeth in Zusammenarbeit mit Epson zur besonders genauen und feinen Farbabstimmung von mehrfarbigen Tintenstrahldruckern (6 und mehr Farben) entwickelt.

"Zusammenarbeit" means "cooperation"
