Well, I would change that to "good wine" is for "good friends". Acquaintances can drink the cheap stuff.

Sharing great wine with great friends over a nice diner, well, almost nothing beats that!

Andrew Rodney and I are partial to Peet's coffee (although for expresso drinks I rather like Starbucks-quad grande mocha with whip). Andrew was nice enough to send out coffee beans for X-Mas (thanks Andrew) a nice package of Kona and another of Jamaica Blue Mountain.

At some point I would like to try the [a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kopi_Luwak]Kopi Luwak Indonesia coffee[/url], but at over $160/lbs, it won't be any time real soon. Plus there's that "ish factor" of drinking coffee made from beans that have been shatout the back end of an animal...

You know what, i think i will stick with coffee that was taken DIRECTLY form the coffee tree...(let's just say that the picture on wiki from your link does not make me want to drink some of that coffee...)

Wimp...

:~)

But, I will agree that the source is not something to dwell on if you were to get a cup of "weasel coffee".

I would say that acquaintances and in-laws can drink the cheap stuff.

ach, I'd forgotten that one!

I start every day with a very black 'after dinner' espresso made from coffee beans supplied by Whittards of Chelsea and brewed in my lever machine. Love the ritual and the taste. It gets turned on again when I get home at night, or when friends arrive... I sometimes drink other coffes as well, but usually prefer the single estates from a cafetierre

Peets! More evidence you are a fellow of fine taste and discrimination, Jeff.

While some of their conclusions are suspect (to me), Consumer Reports did some double blind testing of the various wine preservation systems about a year ago.  Basically they noted that, over the course of a day or two, that nobody could tell a difference whether you just jammed the cork back in overnight or used some fancy Argon anaerobic preservation system -- both tasted good.  And, for red wine, after a week, both tasted bad.  So really the preservation technique doesn't matter.

White wine preserved much better than red (that is to say, for a lot longer), but the same findings held true -- that the fancy schmancy stuff didn't actually improve longevity.

Ah...Consumer Reports. Quit paying attention after they recommended the Hanimex Practika as a best buy.

Another vote for the Vacu-vin, inexpensive and does the job.
