Rollei Hy6 available with Phase back?

This is probably a rhetorical question, like children ask when traveling on a family holly day... are we there yet?

We should enjoy this exiting days of entire systems dieing and others racing up to occupy their place.

For some, the entire MF field is an endangered species, encroached by the relentless increase pixel / bit-depth smaller format offerings.

I would personally hold the commitment to a MF system until Q-1 08 when the concept of a Phase open system will be announced and all the H6Y will be coming out of the pipeline.

The world as we knew it fell apart when the marriage between the most popular camera (Hasselblad) and the most popular back (Phase) ended up in separation. This created a scramble that will start to  result in new marriages precisely in or around Q-1 08...

Yes you are.

Even on the, web civil responsibility is important. It is because the more we duplicate information in a non efficient way, the more seach engines have a difficult time identifiying the right information sources, which will within a few years pretty much kill the interest of internet as a queryable information repository.

If you don't do it for yourself, do it for your children and spread the word out there, please.

Cheers,
Bernard

- it is much "likely" that the answer to the question on the subject will not change, as far as Jenoptik/Sinar are concerned.

Thierry,

Whatever the reason (and who is to blame), you should be aware that this pretty much makes the Hy6 platform a non option for many people out there.

This might be a sound business decision nonetheless, but one that focusses then on a sub-set of an already small niche market.

I would personnally think that building a (mostly) closed system from scratch these days isn't too smart from a strategical standpoint, but you guys probably know better.

Cheers,
Bernard

The question is valid.

Hasselblad shot the door to Phase, Leaf, Sinar and all.

Sinar and Leaf made a new system for their backs.

Phase just announced that they are making a "Phase Camera" that is open,

Probably Phase means that the front part of the system is open, meaning lenses that are Mamiya mount and "other European manufacturer".

This probably means that they want to go head to head with the Hy6 and Hasselblad that are going to be -- just guessing here -- Phase One incompatible.

What could be interesting is to see a Hy6 Rollei compatible with Phase One AND Hy6 optics... After all Rollei doesn't have back of their own, I think.

So it is out of Sinar control to announce or not the availability of Phase One backs on the Hy6.

I think that if there was going to be a Hy6/Phase back it would have been announced by now.

So, valid question, not "more [we] duplicate information in a non efficient way"

And since no announcements have been made by any of the companies involved in this theoretical camera/back combination, there's nothing that can be said in this thread that hasn't already been speculated, discussed, misconstrued, debated, and rehashed ad nauseum in the other two multi-page threads on this same subject. Shall we just cut and paste those threads here and get it over with?

Hasselblad has gone to a closed system.

Leaf & Sinar have the Hy6/Rollei platform, also closed to outside players.

Phase and Mamiya have something in the works but haven't released details yet.

Everything else is wishful thinking, rumor-mongering, and speculation at this point.

This is what Phase has to say -- or not to say or stop from doing so -- about the a Phase back for the Hy6 or about a Sinar, Leaf or ZD back going in to the new Phase body...

Hello

It is not as simple as that, it is much more political at the moment.

I can nor confirm or disconfirm if there will be a Hy6 combo. I do know that Phase One certainly wants to produce and support this new camera, more information then this I can not give at current moment.

When it comes to the Phase One camera it will be using a open interface. The very same as the Mamiya 645AFDII. So any competitors back that work with AFDII should work on our new camera.
Now that is what I call open interface!
