First Sale question
« on: December 14, 2007, 06:24:19 pm »

Sold my first picture today and wanted to know where to sign and how. It is a stretched canvas print on a frame so there is no border.

Thanks

Congratulations on the sale.

I sign mine using a pigment paint marker. You can get them at most art and craft stores. My current one is from Deco Color, and is a solvent based pigment ink. I'm not happy about the VOCs and it takes it a while to dry. OTOH, it seems to bond well to the varnish coatings I've used.

As to where to sigh, sign where you want. I try to sign in the lower right corner somewhere, but sometimes the image is too dark there so I'll sign in the lower left. I want the signature to be readable, but I don't want it to stand out much either. The image is what's important after all. Typically I'll sign over darker tones -- say around the 3/4 tones. But there aren't really any rules, so do what you want.
