ink for 4800-4880
« on: December 11, 2007, 08:16:31 pm »

Does anyone know for sure what is going on with the ink for 4800 vs 4880 Epson Printers.
I know the new K3 ink set has new vivid magenta's that only work with the new 4880. Calumet told me that the other color cartridges are the same and to use the newer 4880 cartridges for the 4800. B&H has the new cartridges listed as compatible for both and no longer has the original 4800 cartridges.
But they also list the vivid magenta as for both which I know is wrong, I have called them and the guy I talked to does not really know.
Has anyone been using the newer cartridges (non magenta) for the 4880 in their 4800?
thanks
David

You don't want to put Vivid Magenta into a 4800. The other inks are the same.

Thanks, that is super helpful information. I wasn't planning on trying the vivid magenta.
I did already order a cyan and yellow with the new part numbers.

Hi,

I asked the same questions because I was as confused as you.

Basically, old part number inks for the 4800 will fit in the 4880, but will not work, because of the chip inside them, which won't recognise the 4880.

The new part number inks will work in both the 4800 and the 4880, with the exception of the vivid magentas.

I haven't tried any of this, but managed to glean this information from various sources on the web, including Epson themselves.

Hope this helps.

How come, does it mess up the printer? Is the print head for vivid magenda different from other print heads in 4880, or something like that?

Here is what is going on:

The new inks for the 4880 (all but the vivid magentas) will work in the 4800 but

The old inks for the 4800 will not work in the 4880.

We have both printers here and the 4800 will not even fit into the 4880.  The cart is different.

We had this problem and many suppliers swear that everything is the same.  This comes direct from epson.

If you have any questions call me.
