I moved my z down two flights of stairs, during which it wound up on its back once, and at 45 degree angles several times.  The carriage was locked with the orange bits I saved from unpacking.  It was transported in below freezing weather across town in a van, set on an icy loading dock for a few minutes, and wound up inside shortly thereafter to be reassembled on its stand and ignored for most of a week.  Turned it on, ran a print head alignment just in case, loaded up some canvas, and ran off a print for a desperate (and soon very pleased) client with no problems whatsoever.  Now it's under a tarp again while I build a spraybooth.

Nice sturdy machine.   Good job, HP.

... I only wish my back was as sturdy.

Congrats on the move Sean - wow what a job.  Good thing no problems.
Super duper that it worked like a charm.  Good to know it can take that kind of moving around and still keep ticking...

Regards,

Mark

I'm glad to hear the move went so well, Sean.  I'm surprised that with all the tilting there wasn't ink everywhere.

Oops.
I guess I should have saved those orange bits. Oh, well.

I'm glad the machine can hold its liquor, too!

I'm not convinced the orange carriage locks were essential to the move, but since I'd saved them I used them.  I think the only other part of the packing materials I saved were the two huge styro blocks, now doing service as ... table legs.

We discussed it in theory some time ago I believe. Which end did you keep low when it had to be tilted, the left side furthest away from the fixed heads ?  Did you clamp up the carts that they wouldn't pop off the connections with the higher ink pressure at the lower side ?

I don't remember which way the printheads went, up or down -- probably both. I didn't clamp anything although I did tape the lids shut.  Still haven't noted any spills or drips, and my test prints were flawless, so I'm guessing it doesn't matter too much for short "going down the stairs" tilt events.  I certainly would not attempt to store the printer on its side.
