LR Blacks clipping more sensitive than ACR?
« on: December 10, 2007, 06:31:55 pm »

I posted this in the Adobe Lightroom forum a few weeks ago, but didn't get an authoritative reply:

If I open the same .dng image in LR and ACR, the Blacks point clipping warning (ctrl J) in LR shows significantly more Blacks clipping than ACR. On many images, there's still some clipping showing with Blacks set at 0.

Does LR define 'clipping' more sensitively than ACR? I know LR uses a different variant of ProPhoto than ACR, but that doesn't seem to account for the difference.

I use the auto Blacks setting in ACR as a good starting point, but adopting the same auto setting in LR seems to mean I'm allowing more clipping.
