4800 blemishing
« on: December 09, 2007, 02:15:36 pm »

Hello,
I have noticed some blemishing with our Epson 4800 and heavy paper with a strong curl [Illuminata Photo Rag 300]
The blemishes appear as some stray or grouped black lines usually in the first 8" of a 30" print. In some instances the lines are outside the image area slightly. This suggests the print head grazing the paper where it may have some ink on it. The lines are never more than an inch or so long and, when in groups, the area involved is 1 or 2 square inches. Apart from the blemishes, the image is printed down with its usual high quality.
Does the 4800 use vacuum to hold the paper tight under the print head? Could it be too weak? This bad run of 7 prints this AM was on 13" paper. Could that leave the rest of the vacuum holes sucking wind and weakening the hold on the paper?
