Dumb Hy6/AFi Revolving Adaptor Plate Question
« on: November 26, 2007, 11:55:24 am »

From an engineering point of view I do like the Sinar Adaptor Plate approach to the Hy6. On the Leaf side, the AFi Adaptor plate appears more integrated into the AFi back (Sorry, no pic). That would leave me to speculate that for Leaf to create a revolving Adapter Plate it may result in the purchase of a new AFi Back. The Sinar approach may more easily create a revolving adaptor that may not require the purchase of a new Back. Any thoughts?

It has already been stated by several sources that the rotating adapter will be a separate item from Sinar. I think Michael's Hy6 review stated this would cost $1,500. It will work with existing eMotion/LV backs.

The separate (relatively cheap) rotating adapter from Sinar is exactly my point. It will not be compatible with the Leaf AFi. I hate being confronted with the shortcomings of the marketing department for my back of choice, which is Leaf. Clearly, Sinar (and I'm sure Phase) are engineering driven organizations which employ simple innovations like interchangeable and revolving adapters. Comparing the Sinar and AFI Back Mounting Brackets, it would appear impossible for Leaf to offer a $1,500 rotating Adapter without the purchase of new Leaf AFi back with that particular upgrade.

Well, that is misleading. The adapter will work with an AFi body, but of course not the Leaf back.
