New to me Epson 2200 / want basic b&w print
« on: November 24, 2007, 02:14:51 pm »

I've just bought an epson 2200 and want to print my inventory of black and white pictures....they look great  on the screen. exactly as I have prepared them, but I can't get not one single print to match my screen....they all appear about 2 values higher than on the screen )lighter. and I can't correct this and get a print. I've printed umpteen prints and still no real black and white print...can someone give me a basic " do it like this" or "follow this way".....idear...

I appreciate it...

Howdy,

I hate to say it but the 2200 isn't the best printer to be using for (easy) B&W prints.  You could try using dedicated B&W inks and/or a RIP and see if that helps.  Here's a link to a well respected and inexpensive RIP that also includes info about and links to dedicated B&W ink sources, etc.:

Also try this Yahoo group for all things related to B&W inkjet printing:

You can go here for info on "black only" B&W printing with the 2200 (also a graet source of paper info):

Good luck!  I hope you find a solution that works for ya!

Cheers!

Let me second akclimber´s recommendations.  I had a 2100 (same as 2200) for some years before upgrading to the 3800 some months ago.  B/W is VERY important to me, and these two solutions were the only ones (within realistic economic limits) that could actually produce B/W prints that I even considered keeping or displaying.

The "black-only" solution is simple and free, and works quite well.  QTR costs a small sum, but it is far more flexible and gives the option of selecting the "warmth" of the print.  After trying it, it became my standard method.  Why not try both; it´s easy (testing QTR is free; you pay if/when you´re satisfied).

That said, of course the B/W from the 3800 (in Advanced B/W mode) beats the pants off anything from the 2100....
