Free LR download for RSP owner?
« on: November 21, 2007, 12:39:08 pm »

According to the adobe web site:

http://www.adobe.com/special/pixmantec/

I should be entitled to a free download of LR, since I'm a bona fide owner or RSP.  Unfortunately, I can't seem to convince anyone in the Adobe customer service department of this fact.  Can anyone here suggest the magic words you need to say to get them to email you the download link?

TIA

This will be tough (I'd guess impossible) at this point.  Adobe/Pixmantec sent out emails to all registered owners of RSP as soon as LR 1.0 was released.  If you didn't get an email, I don't know how you'll convince them with this much time elapsed.

There might be something on the Pixmantec forum site.

LOL, yeah, having attempted a civil conversation with 5 or 6 of the Adobe "Customer Service" reps and gotten nothing but the royal run-around, I can tell you it's tough all right.

Both the Adobe web site at the URL in my original post, and the pixmantec forum referenced on that page still say that RSP owners will get a free DL, and there's no mention of a time limit.  In fairness, it does say "1.0", but (on the pixmantec forum) it also says that LR updates for RSP owners will be handled "the same" as for anyone that paid for LR.

Slightly off topic, but why does Adobe insist on performing customer service over the phone, instead of via email or with their web based tech support system?  It would be so much easier to just email screen shots of their web site, with the relevant words highlighted.

Something sticks in my mind from the Pixmantec site last Spring--about a deadline more or less.  I can't remember particulars--and may even be wrong, but it seems to me on the RSP forum that it was discussed.  I can see the point---its been since last January I think since they offered LR for RSP licensees and perhaps they feel that 10 months or so are long enough to keep that offer open.   Someone this summer wanted to do the same thing but I never saw the outcome.  Good luck, but I'm guessing that you will have a tough row to hoe at this point.

Do you still have your Pixmantec registration notification?  I know I got an email from them.  I don't know if it would help, but it certainly wouldn't hurt!  :-)

Update:

I finally made a breakthrough last week, and got one of the reps to acknowledge that yes, I'm entitled to the free DL.  Unfortunately, they seem unable to actually deliver the email to me that will enable me to start the download process -- they keep insisting that I must have a spam filter or firewall setting that's blocking it.  My spam filter doesn't delete anything, just moves it to a different folder for my review.  And I get plenty of email on the (doubly verified) address I provided, so I doubt my firewall is selectively blocking POP3 protocol just from adobe.com.  I also gave them an alternate address to try, still nothing.

Today, one of the reps dictated the download URL, character by character, and it seems to get me to the correct page.  But the new wrinkle is that it refuses to accept the email address "associated with my Pixmantec Rawshooter purchase".  It's correct, I triple checked it against the email address I still have on file from Pixmantec when I originally purchased RSP.  I tried a few other valid addresses, but none are accepted.  The rep gave me an email address at adobe.com to try, which of course didn't work either.  Finally he said he'd try emailing me the download link to a different address, but I can't see how that's going to help, since I did get to the right URL.

I'm not sure exactly what I hope to accomplish by posting here, other than to vent a little.  I've wasted 3 hours over the last 2-3 weeks on this -- it's frustrating to me that you have to communicate with adobe over the phone on stuff like this.  Despite their "case numbers", you wind up having to repeat the story over and over again.  Anyone know of a customer service email address, or a way of escalating to someone who can actually get it resolved?
