Dxo optics 5 released
« on: November 21, 2007, 07:43:22 am »

Good day,

Check this out:
http://www.dxo.com/

Hopefully, I will like this version better. It shall have some new RAW demosacing which shall better the older version. They speak off better integration off Lightroom. Which the software I uses. I havnt obtained a demo yet.

But I depended on fixing my distortions with Lensfix(http://www.kekus.com) as DXO had a terrible integration for Lightroom before which made it cumbersome in my personal opinion to use it.

I am intrigued by their conversation claims. It will be interesting if can get some extra detail out my photos by their new RAW demosacing engine. I only seen their marketing examples. But it will interesting.

Anyway just wanted share it. It is a interesting software.

Cheers,

I bought an upgrade this morning. After a very slow download I installed v.5. But I can't open it. Have sent a message but haven't got any answer.
The site of DxO is down at moment.

Please share your opinion later. I just found out that the mac version wont come until later. Share I can use Paraells desktop for run windows on my mac. But to much hustle for me

I always been interrested in DXO but never really found a reason to buy it yet. Maybe when I can us the optical corrections on other files then .nef. My greatest hope is that I can use DNG files, which is important for me for my workflow.

I had harddisc crash and all my settings was lost because my rescue software couldnt save the sidecar files. But in DNG all is save in one file which I like as sometimes do some manually moving around my discs.

I hope there is better intergration with LR - I barely use DXo now that LR is established in my workflow, but I still sometimes want the optical corrections and at times the colour rendering also. Previously I preferred DXo's demosaicing to ACR 3.6 or 7, but 4.2  (now 4.3) has moved the process on very significantly in comparison (to my eyes).

The real sell for me of LR was the ability to manage images wnd workflow from within LR together with the ability to use it as a 'sketchbook' when travelling with camera and laptop. Michael also commented that he had done much of his processing by the time he got back from Madagscar.

I travel alot and snap alot o photos. Lightroom dramatically changed how often I import and edit. It is so easy to work a bit with photos. My evenings often end with my laptop in the bed and doing some basic adjustment and take down the laptop and do a slideshow for friends at breakfeast.

So implenting DXO in easy way into lightroom would be great. As spending most my time with wideangles the distorotion isnt fun. Especially on straight line subjects and humans.

I was to tempted so tried a the windows demo on my mac. Just to see the demosacing engine at work. I was impressed. I think it obtained some extra detail. Especially from "leafy" landscapes. But it was so small that I think never seen it without beeing 100% and A/B looking. The reason I was impressed was that when demoed the DXO 4 I was a bit disappointed. But I am no expert.

I doubt that I would benefit in print.
