I posted in a seperate thread for two reasons, one it's considered "bad form" to hi-jack another members thread, and secondly (and more importantly) it seems to be a different problem!
Wolfnown problem with slideshow seem to be intermittant, where as mine doesn't work at all.
This forum has a number of experienced, dare I say expert? users of LR, I was hoping one of them may be able to help me shed some light on the problem (pun intended), perhaps even solve it for me.  Thanks  Wayne

You might try disabling Direct 3d acceleration--it worked for me.

1. Start menu, Run.
2. Type C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\dxdiag.exe (or just dxdiag alone).  Enter.
3. After the DirectX diagnostic starts, select the "Display" tab at the top.
4  Next to "Direct 3d acceleration" click "disable."
5. Exit

OR you could try updating your video drivers.  Set a "System Restore Point" first.

Then again, maybe I have missed something a lot more simple than all this!

Thank you Mark that worked a treat!   One question will leaving it disabled be a problem for anything else?
Thanks again.   Wayne

If your computer is being used mostly for photo editing, then it should not be an issue, although there are some exceptions, like certain panorama programs.

Of course, you can always turn it back on using dxdiag if needed.

If disabling it causes problems with many of your other programs, then you could try updating your video drivers through the manufacturer's web site.  This might eliminate the need to turn off 3d acceleration.  Personally, I prefer to live with minor driver issues since updating drivers can sometimes cause more problems than the one you were trying to fix!

Thanks again Mark, I'll take your advice and live with the driver issues (if there are any)  my computer is used mostly for editing, I don't play games or anything like that, I do have some pano software but it's not used much, as I usually use CS3 for it anyway.

Thanks mate for the fast reply.  Wayne
