Alpa TC and Phase
« on: November 15, 2007, 02:48:59 pm »

I assume, as I have seen, that the standard way for a right hander is to use the left hand wakeup grip and then fire shutter with the right. Also the cables seem to want to be on the left.

Any ideas, or experience??

Hi Victor
I had also favored the TC but ended up buying the ALPA SWA last may, and a P45+.
The extra wakeup grip for the TC works fine but you do loose the great advantage of having the most compact and simple camera possible with a MFDB anyway.
You should seriously consider the WA or SWA with the wake-up grip (on the left), trigger and cables for Phase One, as it's the best integrated solution there is for the wake-up signal required. You very quickly get accustomed to first press with the left forefinger and then the right (within 4 sec) to release the shutter.

And handholding a SWA is a real joy, feels extremely solid and provides a stable platform even to do some handheld shooting. I prefer it to the TC.
Obviously for best IQ I use a tripod.

regards, Jost

Thank you. Actually I want the TC since it is for travel and almost ALWAYS will be hand held. I did not even get the viewer (I may use a Zeiss or Leica or the tiny CV  with the optional universal shoe
I have the TC and left grip Phase wakeup grip, which I believe also fits the SWA
Of course with the rt grip and SWA I would have a second system. but right now, you have answered my question; that is , wake  up on the left!
