Sorting problem
« on: November 14, 2007, 02:26:33 am »

Hi.

Sometimes when I want to sort my photo'sin user order it doesn't allow me to do that.
I can't seem to move them around.
Even when I'm in grid view, select them all and then go to the menu and tr user order, it just won't listen.  It is very helpful in printing and web and nerve wrecking when it doesn't work.
Am I missing something (cause it looks like the program does in at random.)Is it something I have overlooked in lightroom?

I believe you can sort folders in Grid View, but only in sub-folders.  What I mean is if you have a TOP folder and an A B and C sub folders, if you're looking at all of the images in the TOP folder you can't sort them but if you're in the A, B or C subfolders, you can sort the images within those folders.  Think of it as if you were in Windows Explorer, or Mac's Finder.  Looking at a folder shows you the icons of the folders contained within that folder, but you can't do anything with the files contained within those subfolders.  To do anything with a specific file, you have to navigate to the folder containing the file.

Thanks.
I'll checkt it out, and will use folders even more and will probably use collections even more.

They're a great feat of lightroom!

To summarize, the User Order sort is not available in All Photographs or Previous Import. So you can't drag the thumbnails around to rearrange them in those sources. You have to be viewing a Folder or Collection for User Order sorting.

In Library, on the Toolbar, there is a dropdown menu for Sort. Check to see what's available in that dropdown when viewing the different sources.

Also - to quickly move between recent sources, use the Recent Sources menu above the filmstrip. (Click and hold the name of the current source or the tiny triangle at the right to get the Recent Sources popup menu).
