4880 inks and availability
« on: November 01, 2007, 03:08:31 pm »

Hi All,

Having just missed out on a last minute end of line deal on a 4800, I'm now considering a 4880. A couple of questions:

Are they shipping yet - has anyone actually got one of these new printers yet, particularly in the UK?

If I have some 4800 ink cartridges, can they be used in the new machine - I understand about the new magenta inks, but will the other cartridge colours be compatible?

Thanks in advance

Dave

According to this page nothing has changed about the non-magenta inks except for the part number.

The same site also claims to have the 4880 in stock: http://www.itsupplies.com/cgi-bin/itsuppli...roduct/SP4880K3

Hi.

Thanks for that - I'm really confused now though, because I just had an Email conversation with an Epson rep who assured me that if the ink part numbers had changed, the old inks won't work on the new machine. I wonder if the support guy is right or wrong?

Here's the transcript of our conversation:

Dave Sculthorpe: "Can I use ink cartridges from my 4800 in the 4880, excepting the two new vivid magenta inks?"

Agent (Alan.): "Thanks for waiting Dave, the cartridges have different codes, this meaning that they will not be compatible."

Dave Sculthorpe: "Hmm. I heard that although the part numbers have changed, in fact the cartridges are the same and old stock can be used on the new machine, again with the exception of the magenta inks. (from a US Epson dealer on line)"

Agent (Alan.): "If the cartridges use a different T0 code, then they will not be compatible. The printers and the cartridges are specific to the model the are intended."

Dave Sculthorpe: "Intersting, please can you confirm that this information:"
 "is not correct?

Agent (Alan.): "The codes are very specific for the printer they are intended. If the printer cartridges use different codes then they will not work. I have looked at the article and from my experience, the cartridges will not work."
