File could not be opened.
« on: November 01, 2007, 02:46:45 am »

I get the message "The file could not be opened" on some of my library
pictures.

I'm obviously doing something wrong, but exactly what I do not know?

What puzzles me is that it does not show on all the images in my library?
The images are Canon raw and have been post processed then stored
and it is at this stage that I get the "The file could not be opened" screen message, but do not get this message on every similar image I process and store.

I'm using LR 1.2.

Any advice would be most welcome.  Thanks for any replies.

Rob, are you doing the round trip to PS and 'save as' so that they are brought back into LR in same location--or are you saving them elsewhere?  I get the 'cannot be loaded' when I don't have my external drives (where I reference my files from) attached.  The image will appear in the library or I can use keywords, but I cannot do anything further with the file until I hook my drives.

That's the only time I've experienced it so don't know if that helps or not.  I would look carefully at how you are using PS from LR and how/where those tiffs or psds are being saved.

Hi Diane,
                Thanks for the reply.
Quite possibly, that is exactly what I may have done.
To be honest, I can't remember as it is a while ago since
I spotted this problem, and it is only now that I've had time to get
around to trying to solve it.

I have PS on my system and I have done the 'save as' with some
pictures a few times, so it could be the solution to the problem.

I will try on an old and unwanted shot to save in PS and then go back to LR
and see the results.  Will report back the findings.

I appreciate your interest and advice.  Thanks.
