Q about Media Types on Epson 3800 driver
« on: October 31, 2007, 05:45:46 pm »

Greetings,

I am playing with my new Epson 3800, and I have a sample pack of paper from Inkjetart. I want to choose the proper Media Type for a specific paper (the Harman Matte FB), but several of the Epson media types are grayed out on my menu. They are Velvet Fine Art, Ultrasmooth FA, and Watercolor. All the other choices are there.

At the moment I am trying to print using the ABW feature. But even if I choose to print in color, and choose the proper profile for one of these papers, the Media Type is still grayed out in the driver.

Do I need to load these from somewhere? Any ideas?

Thanks,

Ken

Ken,

The paper types should not be greyed.  However, the one thing that the paper types you name have in common is that if you try to load them into the "sheet" feeder, you will get a message that they should not be loaded there, and that "rear" is preferred.  In fact, it will automatically reset the feed location to "rear" for you (at least on my Windows system) if you select "sheet."  Are you trying to use the sheet feeder for these papers?  It doesn't like it.  But ABW will definitely print on those papers, as will color.

I cannot get my 3800 to grey out any paper types, though, no matter what, so you might want to try reloading your Epson printer driver.

Best of luck,

Thanks, Aaron. I wonder if I choose the rear load, or front load, if I will be able to those paper types. I'll try it as soon as I get home.

Ken, I assume you're on the Mac, right? For the VFA, USFA, and WPRW media types, you need to choose either the Rear Feed or the Front Feed. (I recommend the Rear Feed.)

Thanks, Eric. Yes, I am on the Mac. I'll try the rear feed this evening. (Not that it really matters -- the Harman FB Matte is $70 a box, versus $13 a box for the Epson and $11 for a very nice Inkpress Matte.)

I am having similar problems.  Having just converted to a mcapro from XP, i am trying to get my head around the new driver payout.

My Fine art paper types are greyed out as well.  I cannot find anywhere to change which paper feeder from front to rear.  Where is this option located in print driver menus?

i have epson driver 6.10, net config 2.2, and OSX 10.5.4.

I have to admit - loving my mac, but the windows print driver beats the mac driver hands down.

Cheers

It's done in the page setup area, not in the print driver.
